Hello!

Thanks in advance for your fic, I’m really looking forward to it! I’m recycling the prelude to my requests from last year’s letter, as well as one of the fandoms, but the rest is new. You can find me on Tumblr and AO3 if you’d like to get to know me a little better.

This year's nominations are:

- De ontdekking van de hemel | The Discovery of Heaven - Harry Mulisch

- Okane Ga Nai (Anime)
- Modesty Blaise (1966)
- Pygmalion (1938)

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: romantic and sexual tension (the little things – incidental or secret touches, meaningful stares), domesticity, unusual situations (i.e. stuff they might not typically encounter in canon), capers, travel fics, powerplay, exhibitionism (not necessarily sexual, could be showing off their lover/relationship in public in a PG way), exploration of LGBT identity (especially in a historical context, but also in contemporary adversity or victory), pining, obsessive love, complicated feelings, epistolary.

Dislikes: Omegaverse, first & second person, poly, explicit/erotic underage, common sense extreme kinks/unasked for things

I don't have any strict DNWs or triggers, so you'll probably be fine.

Kinks

I'm 100% good with a fic that has no sex in it at all, but... you know.

Inexperienced partners (e.g. first gay experience), inexperienced but enthusiastic partners (e.g. first gay experience but he's really going to town on that dick), kissing, restricted movement, rituals, humiliation, playing on power dynamics and flipping them, corruption, knife and gunplay, obsession, drugs, hurt/comfort, repression and giving in, blackmail, religion, fighting/wrestling, public, overstimulation, clothed/nude or partially clothed (CMNM), discipline, ecstatic submission, fuck or die.

The Fandoms

De ontdekking van de hemel | The Discovery of Heaven - Harry Mulisch

Max Delius, Onno Quist

I read this classic for the first time at the beginning of the year and really enjoyed it. Somewhat predictably, I’m intrigued by the relationship between Max and Onno, and its quasi-romantic nature at the beginning. Their lives leading up to their encounter and subsequent connection were crafted by the angels to lead to Quinten’s birth and upbringing, so inclusion of aspects like Onno’s mother dressing him up as a girl when he was very young is pretty interesting – presumably to contribute towards his general character and attitude, but clearly leaving behind weird baggage. I’d like to see missing scenes from the decades of their friendship, with resolved or unresolved sexual tension, particularly after Ada enters the picture. I can definitely see a Challengers-style moment between the three of them.

I also really enjoy everything about Quinten’s character and attitude, so it’d be cool to see him going on adventures in his typical ineffable style. Tying into the above, I could see him making some pointed comments or walking in on an awkward situation between his dads. Lots of room to manoeuvre given how extensive the story is. Obviously, having meta narrative and angel POVs to your heart’s content is very welcome.

As an aside, I don't picture the characters looking like the actors in the film version at all, so go with what you feel.

Okane Ga Nai

Honda Souichirou, Someya Kaoruko

The fact I'm requesting this fandom is pretty funny but anyway.

OK, so, the main relationship in the story is the exact kind of dynamic I don’t care about. However, I was pretty intrigued by the side relationship between Someya and Honda, which got its own spinoff comic. I’d like to see more about them, perhaps with a little problem they need to solve (e.g. Honda takes it upon himself to soup up some cars in his typical delinquent style to advertise Soumeya’s nightclub, Soumeya is annoyed and grateful at the same time, etc). A look into how they manage their unconventional set-up in Japan’s conservative society, and maybe a look at Someya’s gender identity? I saw her as a clumsy depiction of a drag queen, but reading the spinoff, she might be a clumsy depiction of someone on the trans spectrum, and I’m fine with either read and however you want to take it. Honda introducing her to his family (bros, I guess) and how his chosen family has equivalents with Someya’s queer chosen family, and maybe putting a positive spin on the honestly pretty bigoted depictions of some of the girls who work in Someya’s club by having some of Honda’s friends fall for them. I just feel like there’s space to have fun with the characters. Really not bothered about Ayase and Souma lol but feel free to involve them in the story if you want/plot requires it, just as long as they aren’t the focus.

Modesty Blaise

Gabriel, McWhirter

One of the deepest cuts I’ve requested and that’s saying something. I have to admit total ignorance about the original comic and associated storylines, but I absolutely loved the look and weirdness of the film, and I’m in love with Dirk Bogarde’s villain. His mannerisms, campness, and philosophy are just perfect. I’m not sure how to even go about asking for specifics, but if you have any ideas that capture the unique feel of the film’s aesthetics and vibe, I’d love to read it. I’m also a sucker for romance across ranks, so a little McWhirter would be delightful. Maybe how they regroup after he frees Dirk from certain death at the end of the film? A past caper?

If you’re well-versed in the Modesty Blaise universe, feel free to add in details, though like I said, I’m a total noob when it comes to anything beyond the movie. It’s just captured my imagination ever since I watched it.

Pygmalion

Colonel Pickering, Henry Higgins

I like Eliza, but I've got gay Higgins on the brain. Very happy for Ms Doolittle to be involved, but I didn't nominate her in order to avoid foisting my prompts on some poor soul looking to write het.

- Not breaking new ground with this suggestion but I'd like to see some exploration of Higgins and Pickering’s relationship after the events of the story, reckoning with the complicated feelings left between Eliza and Higgins (maybe with Pickering as a mediator?). Maybe they take a trip to India to get Higgins’ mind off things, and realise they have deeper feelings for each other? Opportunities for shenanigans if Eliza happens to be on the same trip and premises for her own studies or work.

- I feel like there could be a good 5+1 format (or similar) in the vein of “five times Higgins declared himself a confirmed bachelor and one time he didn’t,” where it’s always in the context of an ambiguously gay situation/conversation, or when he introduces Pickering to his mother, etc, and the final time is after he and Pickering go steady and he can’t find it in himself to call himself a bachelor anymore.

- A fic about Pickering becoming increasingly frustrated with Higgins’ mixed signals would be fun, maybe with the final reveal being that Higgins figured they were already in a relationship the whole time and he was getting frustrated at Pickering being so slow to act.

The Fandoms

A Little Life - Hanya Yanagihara
Any

A Little Life follows four men through trials and tribulations in New York City, focusing on Jude St Francis, an extremely tormented character whose horrific abusive backstory is revealed over the course of over 700 pages. Serious CW for self-harm, child sexual abuse, child prostitution, physical abuse and torture, imprisonment, and ableism. If you’re a speed-reader or have a decent amount of spare time, you might be able to get through the book in time to write a fic before Yuletide. Otherwise, you get all the main story and character beats from the stage play, a recorded version of which is currently in the cinema in a number of countries. I haven’t found it online, but you might!

First off, I obviously appreciate the reasons given for Jude’s aversion to sex in the book, but I have to admit my requests involve prodding that particular soft spot. I was a bit frustrated by the fact that we get granular descriptions of him turning his arms into mincemeat, but his sex life with Willem is painted with an extremely broad brush, in a way that feels almost embarrassed/precious. It left me with a bunch of questions that I feel could be fertile ground for fic.

- During a chat with a friend, she mentioned that Willem experimented with men in university but had had largely/exclusively heterosexual sex for decades, and that he probably kind of sucked at gay sex. In the stage version, he literally just licks his hand to lube up before topping Jude. I’d be interested in reading explorations of different ways in which they could explore sexuality. Yanagihara is clearly set on it being unquestionably abhorrent for him, which is fine, but I think fic is a good way to look at things that were left out of the text. There seems to be a real focus on penetration, which is weirdly heteronormative. Elements of the book and the play point to Jude enjoying touch, pressure/weight on him, kissing, and massages. How could those be avenues into his sexuality, and for Willem to see new sides of the matter, too? I think there could even be some skillful incorporation of dominance and submission. It would also be cool to see Willem focus more on being the receptive partner – Jude doesn’t get erect in the book, but you don’t need a flesh and blood erection for penetration. Maybe seeing Willem be so vulnerable to his actions would do something to him, even if it isn’t entirely/unquestionably positive to start with.

- Related to the above, it would be interesting to think of how a more positive interaction with sexuality would affect the existing plot. Maybe it would just compound Jude’s grief after Willem’s car crash, since he really can’t picture ever having a sexual outlet after beginning to heal with Willem. Maybe it averts the crash because they're a little caught up getting frisky at the lake house, but Malcolm and his wife still die while getting a taxi over and Jude feels like it’s a punishment for daring to enjoy something sexual, which just reverses any progress. Maybe things are fine and you want to have a more positive spin on the story, including an awkward but endearing father-son talk with Harold about aging and sex.

- I’d also like to have more moments of relationship building between Jude and Willem. For all the positives of the book, I have to admit that I didn’t really get much of a sense of camaraderie and intimacy between the two characters in the way the author wanted us to. Building on their kind of bitchy and corny sense of humour for little side episodes might be fun. Maybe some complicating elements, like a paparazzo cornering Jude or people catching wind of a blind item about someone who's clearly Willem sleeping around with women and speculation about his being in a gay relationship for "clout."

- Actually, weaving in how homophobia affects Jude as a whole and the impact it has on his overall shame and trauma would also be good, because it's weirdly unexplored in the book, given he was literally raised by Catholic monks and lives in presumably 80s-2010s America. It almost seems like a non-issue apart from cursory mentions of parental homophobia or effects on Willem's career. Maybe part of the story could involve the gang attending Pride and it bringing up conflicting feelings. There's a question mark cast on whether Jude is even same-sex attracted, in the book, but I interpreted it as a result of his trauma rather than some kind of weird "i'm only gay for you" thing with Willem. I get that exceptions happen in reality and so on but it's a fiction trope I really don't like, and I wouldn't find it particularly well employed in A Little Life if that were the intention all along (which, again, I don't think it is).
If you don’t want to touch any of that, I’d just be keen on moments involving Harold and Jude’s relationship, either within canon or with some divergences (e.g. Jude is the one who dies instead of Willem, and Harold and Willem are left with this strange connection; Harold’s health takes a turn and Jude finds some purpose caring for someone who’s physically more afflicted than he is for once, etc).

- I also included Caleb in the nominations because he’s almost comically awful and random (like, if Harold didn't meet him, I'd almost believe he was a figment of Jude's imagination, self-sabotage) but that also makes him intriguing. If you're so inclined, why not type up some vignettes from the time after he disappears from Jude’s life, for example, as he becomes weaker and weaker from his cancer, turning into the type of person he despised? Did he keep tabs on Jude? What's his new partner like?

Pygmalion - Shaw
Henry Higgins (Pygmalion - Shaw), Colonel Pickering (Pygmalion - Shaw)

The George Bernard Shaw classic about a misogynist Edwardian linguist taking a bet to change a working class flower girl's accent to an upper class one. You know it, you love it.You can find Pygmalion on Project Gutenberg for free.

I like Eliza, but I just saw the play at the Old Vic, then rewatched My Fair Lady, and I've got gay Higgins on the brain. Very happy for Ms Doolittle to be involved, but I didn't nominate her to avoid foisting my prompts on some poor soul looking to write het.

- Not breaking new ground with this suggestion but I'd like to see some exploration of Higgins and Pickering’s relationship after the events of the play, reckoning with the complicated feelings left between Eliza and Higgins (maybe Pickering helps reconcile them, or at least get them talking again?).

Barbie (Movie 2023)
Allan (Barbie 2023), Ryan Gosling's Ken (Barbie 2023)

I don't need to introduce this fandom. In the same way the first Polish encyclopaedia defined horses as "everyone knows what a horse is," everyone knows the Barbie (2023) film. What I find most fun is the camp content and possibilities of the canon, plus the unexplored aspects of Barbieland that could be fertile ground for fic – and kink. I do like Barbie, but I've chosen the characters cited above because I find the relationship dynamics delicious.

- My interest in Allan/Ken started because of an interview quote to the effect of Ken being Allan's Barbie. Given Allan is somewhat self-aware/more conscious of the realities of Barbieland and the real world, I feel like that opens up some fun avenues to explore his feelings. In some interview, they joked that the other Allans breached containment and formed the Backstreet Boys (maybe their Kens fell out of fashion so their bond weakened?), which is very funny, but also has implications for Cera's Allan. He seems desperate to leave in the film, but maybe he chose to stay behind initially out of his obsession with Ken? Does he find himself trapped in a weird misery spiral?

- I appreciate that Barbieland is genital-free, but I'm sure a creative author could find workarounds. Related to the previous point, maybe Allan did spend some time in the real world before returning, and to his horror, finds that there's a new sexual component to his fixation on Ken. Ken finds himself in a similar situation after his own time in the real world and has no idea how to work off his new sexual frustration. Ken latches onto Allan after Barbie leaves and for the first time, Allan has the upper hand, which turns out to be too difficult to resist. Some art student alters stereotypical Kens to be anatomically correct to make a statement and it has explosive consequences in Barbieland.

- I like the idea that Sugar Daddy Ken and Earring Magic Ken are an established couple who take on sort of mentor/dad roles towards Allan, and give him advice on how to deal with his feelings and situation. The usefulness of this advice varies greatly but Allan appreciates the support.

- Throwing any sophistication out the window: Ken/Ken/Ken/Ken/etc/Allan gangbang extravaganza.

Roy Orbison In Clingfilm - Ulrich Haarbürste
Any

The Roy Orbison In Clingfilm extended universe can be found on this site. I first found out about it through the F Plus podcast episode on the stories, and I just find the writing style and content hysterical and charming.

This is the wildcard, 5-minute-fandom request, and I don't have any sort of extensive prompts or speculation around it. Just more Ulli stories please, with the same integration of random German facts and current events, Roy Orbison song and career references, unexpected guest appearances and Jetta the terrapin. Ulli protecting Roy from Covid with Clingfilm, using it as a parachute to rescue Roy when their plane is unexpectedly hijacked by extremists who want to prevent his concert for nefarious reasons, suggesting Roy apply it while working out in order to lose weight faster for a red carpet appearance. The sky's the limit.

Hello! Thanks in advance for the fic. I've been taking part in Yuletide for five years now (aaaah) and I've always loved everything I got. It's a great experience and a decent writing exercise, and I hope you'll have fun!

The prompts will contain spoilers, but I’ll keep the summaries spoiler-free. Some of these are fandoms for which I've received fics in the past, and my asking again isn't meant as any sort of slight to those wonderful gifts - I'm just a glutton!

You can find me on Tumblr and AO3 if you’d like to get to know me a little better.

I don't have any DNWs or triggers, so you'll probably be fine. Even the dislikes are conditional since, I dunno, you could blow me out of the water with the new Omegaverse AU equivalent of In Search of Lost Time or something. If a story calls for something, go for it. I'm putting my life in ur hands.

The Servant

Tony, Hugo Barrett

The Servant is a 1963 film about Tony, a young upper class man, hiring a valet, Hugo, who slowly starts to take control of his life. Both Robin Maugham, the original novella’s author, and Dirk Bogarde, who plays Hugo, were same-sex attracted, and the film has a strong homoerotic vibe that’s made it a gay classic.

Eastern Promises

Kirill, Nikolai Luzhin

Eastern Promises is a 2007 film about a midwife tracing back the origins of an orphaned baby to the heart of London’s Russian mob – the Vory v Zakonye. Kirill, the bratty, alcoholic son of mob boss Semyon, is canonically in love with his bodyguard/driver Nikolai, who has some secrets of his own. The Kirill/Nikolai dynamic is very interesting and is meant to be the focus of the sequel, which has been stuck in development hell for over a decade :^) hooray.

I’m responsible for most of the gay fanart for EP, which you can find on my Tumblr amidst screencap and gif reblogs and complaining about the sequel being cancelled over and over again.

I prefer stories where Nikolai has/develops feelings for Kirill (dare I ask for a somewhat positive ending?), especially if this interferes with his professional responsibilities.

Some ideas:
  • I'm interested in Kirill’s relationship with his family. Semyon mentions that Kirill is his only son, so he must have at least one sister, since he has his niece Maria (I like to imagine he has a bunch of bossy sisters who bully him but are also really protective). What happened to his mother? How does he reconcile doting on Maria and being in this female-heavy family with his involvement in human trafficking? How does the rest of his family feel about Semyon’s treatment of Kirill, and his incarceration? How do they feel about Nikolai? Does Kirill want his own family, and is part of his torment with his sexuality the belief that he can never achieve this goal?

  • Knowing more about Nikolai’s family/home life would be cool too, especially in contrast with Kirill’s. How does he fit into the family dynamics when he starts hanging about the restaurant more and more? Did he actually have a shitty upbringing, or is that story part of his cover?

  • It’d be interesting to have the boys thrust into a situation they’re not confronted with in the movie. How do the very loud, public Pride events in London make Kirill feel? How does Kirill act when he goes out partying around town?

  • Finally, if you want to include and/or focus on just filth... that's Okay In My Book. Your mileage may vary but from Kirill's dancing in the brothel scene, his nestling against Nikolai's feet when they come home drunk, and his general bratty and eager personality, I feel like he has a sub streak a mile wide and he just wants the opportunity to let loose and be totally dominated. This doesn't even preclude angst/plot in any way, since he's got more issues than Vogue related to his domineering, violent father, his self-hatred and experience with domestic violence, his no doubt horrific sexual history under the thumb of his fucking horrible dad, etc. Then there's Nikolai's own feelings about the situation...

The Young Pope

Any

A young conservative hardliner is elected Pope, and a lot of shenanigans ensue. I'd give a better description but honestly all I can really say is I'm completely obsessed with this show right now and I urge you to watch it if you like theological discussions, banging tunes, sacrilege, amazing visuals, and TV shows that stay with you for a long time.

Don't Sing

Any

The wildcard fandom! This is one of my favourite music videos of all time and seeing it in the tagset was a surprise, but a welcome one. I just love the narrative, the relationships, the visuals... if you have any ideas to expand on the stories laid out in the vid, do share. Most obviously: what the fuck happens next, and how do the characters' fantasies and desires shift over time? Do any of them come true -- partially, at least, and how does that live up to their expectations? Tall ask, but if you managed to weave the fic's narrative in a similar way to the source material, it'd be a lot of fun to read (no stress tho).

Thanks and happy writing!!

Hey! Though I've done a good number of Yuletides, this is my first time participating in Fandom 5K. I usually end writing over that wordcount anyway and I figured that with the quarantine and the world burning down, I'll probably have enough time to bash out a fic or two. I hope you'll have fun! Feel free to hit up my Tumblr or my AO3 to find out more about me.

DNW
  • Omegaverse/AOB
  • Mpreg
  • Genderswap
  • Poly
  • Scat and similar common sense extreme kinks
  • Explicit underage. Reasonable references to sexual exploration or plot-necessary dalliances are okay. I trust your judgement. This is mostly relevant to the boarding school setting.
  • Rape between requested characters - ideally no explicit rape at all but references etc are acceptable if needed for the story.
  • Not fond of second person but I appreciate it depends on the fic itself

Narrative Likes & Kinks

I’m going to list a lot of stuff because these exchanges are a chance to be pretty self-indulgent, but ODA completely O. I find that looking at people’s likes and kinks often prompts fic ideas or helps round out a plan, but it’s entirely up to you.

Narrative Likes

  • Romantic and sexual tension – the little things: incidental or secret touches, meaningful stares… just gimme that buildup juice)
  • Domesticity, especially if it’s early on in the relationship or pre-relationship and one of the character is surprised by the other’s domestic touches
  • Unusual situations, stuff they might not typically encounter in canon and how they cope with it, especially if it puts them out of their comfort zone
  • Capers, cases, and travels
  • Epistolary
  • Fake dating that Turns Real, either for a one-off occasion that requires a partner or some long-term scenario (not wanting to disappoint a family member or whatever)
  • Pining and obsession, where appropriate – I don’t mean suddenly turning a normal dude into a yandere or whatever, but for a fandom like Hannibal you can really lay it on thick, and for something like House it’d involve show-typical jealousy and what have you
  • Powerplay, flexing on other people due to a position of power/expertise
  • Showing off a lover or relationship, especially if one of them is reluctant and shy but chuffed at the same time
  • LGBT identity in a historical or cultural context, i.e. not ignoring societal pressure typical to canon
  • Not sure how else to phrase it except… interesting AUs?? Settings that exacerbate the interesting characteristics of the existing relationship, not generic coffee shop or band AU
  • Forced intimacy, like needing to share a bed
  • Banter, ribbing, just Bein' A Bitch

Kinks

  • Inexperienced partners and experience gap (e.g. first gay experience or murder or whatever for one character but not the other, or both are inexperienced)
  • Inexperienced but very enthusiastic partners (e.g. first gay experience but he’s really going to town on that dick)
  • Drugs, especially sensory enhancers
  • Hurt/comfort
  • Repression and the resulting “dam break” when the person finally gives in, and all the associated internalized shame etc
  • Moral degradation/corruption
  • Power flip; a working class character dominating a rich person, etc
  • Blasphemy and religious kink
  • Knife and gunplay
  • Fighting and wrestling
  • One person clothed and one nude, or both partially clothed
  • Ecstatic submission
  • Fuck or die
  • Sex rituals, either religious, cultural, or just within the relationship (initiation, public claiming, associated with a certain act)
  • Exhibitionism/public
  • Restricted movement
  • Bruising, especially if it’s felt over the course of several days and reminds the person of an arousing/shameful experience
  • Kissing

Fandoms

Hannibal (TV)

This is a show I kind of wish had been around when I was younger, but it still touches on so many things I like (as you can see from the lists above) that it seems like, genetically engineered to cater to my extremely fucked-up demographic. I love the atmosphere, the characters, the writing, the visuals, the themes. Just wanted to gush, tbh.

Group: Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter

Tags: Smut, Mystery/Procedural, Interpersonal Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Horror, Getting Together, Darkfic, Canon-Style Plot - Freeform, AU - Canon Divergence, Action/Adventure, Angst, Established Relationship, AU - Genre Shift

Prompts:
  • Go hog wild here, honestly. As fucked up as you'd like. I don't have specific story requests because there's just so much fic I haven't been able to read all of it yet, so I'll just mention things I'd like to see being focused on or angles I think would be interesting to explore.
  • It'd be great to see snapshots of their childhoods/youths, and the way their experiences might mirror each other despite the distance and the difference in their ages. I feel like the series does a good job dropping enough hints that can be extrapolated into deep-seated issues without a lot of spoon-feeding, so this could be a fun angle for you! I'm very interested in both of them having similar formative experiences but reacting to them very differently, for instance. Hannibal's time at his French boarding school in his teen years must have involved a lot of fucked up shit.
  • Either in established relationship or while getting together (at any point in the canon or post), I'd like to see the ways in which Will surprises Hannibal as he changes. Becoming more assertive, maybe even (almost?) scaring Hannibal - in ways that only make him more attractive, of course.
  • If you want to focus on intimacy/sex, I'm personally kind of a bottom Hannibal stan and I'd like to see him coaching Will into his first experiences with a man and being a top. Clumsiness is a big bonus. I like switch relationships, but I feel like it'd be cool and good to show Hannibal risking the vulnerability of bottoming and how power plays into their interactions. Hannibal enjoys the finer things in life and seeing this applied to sex would be great, especially considering the quote from Bryan Fuller about Hannibal's entire life essentially revolving around sensuality.
  • I'd prefer it if neither killed the other, but close calls are totally okay, especially if it's early on and they don't trust each other completely yet and they're still like -- will he leave me? Is he gonna rat me out?
  • This is a relationship that really suits AUs, in my opinion. Both of them being together in boarding school with shades of Rope (1948) or Young Törless (1966); Will joins the priesthood under the aegis of the more experienced Hannibal and Murder Shenanigans still ensue (or not); an ancient Greek or Roman setting; whatever, honestly.

House M.D.

This show was literally formative to me as a gaylet. Despite the downer ending, you can imagine I felt super vindicated about Baby's First Ship riding off into the sunset. I love their friendship and the underlying fucked-up dynamic and the canon affords lots of chances for niche storytelling interests of mine, namely coming out at an older age, co-dependence, recreational drug use, etc.

Group: Greg House/James Wilson

Tags: Smut, Mystery/Procedural, Interpersonal Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Humor, Getting Together, Fix-it fic, Canon-Style Plot - Freeform, AU - Canon Divergence, AU - Genre Shift, Action/Adventure, Character Development

Prompts:
  • I don't have a longing in my heart for a specific storyline, but I do have aspects of the characters and relationship I'd like to see focused on, or that I think would be interesting to explore. This is an Old Ship and I appreciate these ideas all probably exist in some form, but listen: this is about Your Fic.
  • At a very basic level, it'd be great to see how things would play out canon-style if House and Wilson got together. In the same way other romances influenced storylines or were influenced by storylines, it'd be neat to see them going about their days while navigating this new development, like in an actual storyline across episodes. How does everyone else react? This could be set at any point in the show's run.
  • The nature of their relationship would make sex dynamics (oddly funny set of words) neat and potentially pretty funny. Both wanting to top, Greg being too proud to admit bottoming is actually pretty great, Jimmy being weird about it because of his revolving door of girlfriends and what that may imply about his sexuality, etc.
  • Classic fix-it fic where they end up together but without Jim fucking dying.........
  • Alternately, House pining as Wilson's health deteriorates, and only being able to admit he loves him quite late in the game, and how James reacts and copes with that on top of all his other problems - realising he feels the same way but upset about how little time they have, or how weak he's becoming, etc. Love 2 cry.
  • Inserting their competitive spirit into the relationship, racing to embarrass one another in public, being bitchy to the other's exes, whatever. I realise all of these things happen in the show but, you know. That, but More.
  • I'd prefer something set in canon universe, but if you have an idea for a fun AU, go for it.

Original Work

I've never been in an exchange with a category like this, but I really like the idea! Seems like a fun writing exercise and a way to be indulgent to the max since there's no canon constraints, haha. I'll expand on my choices in the prompts section.

Group: Victorian or Edwardian English All-Boys Public School Student/A Classmate, Male Blind Philosophy Professor/Male Disillusioned Cynical Rich Businessman

Tags: Smut, Interpersonal Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Horror, Getting Together, Character Development, Darkfic, Angst, Action/Adventure

Prompts:
  • The All-Boys Public School one: I think every gay person has elaborate fantasies about single-sex environments, and I had a fixation with boarding schools. I especially liked the idea of two boys bonding very deeply, with the friendship evolving into something more over time, but always influenced by this inherently fucked-up environment. Seeing how it affects them in the long term would also be good, especially if they lose touch for a while, then meet again, and the habits and weird developmental effects come back in full swing and they revert to co-dependence.
  • The Prof/Businessman one: I love how specific this is! I'm sure there's got to be a story behind this nomination, but I have no clue what it is. The potential dynamics just seem interesting. Feel free to go as light or as dark as you want. I feel like it'd be cool if the Prof was also kind of an asshole (he does teach philosophy) or a Zizek-like raccoon man, but a more upbeat and proper dude would also be nice.
  • As there's no canon, if you choose to go with one of these, rather than suggesting specific ideas (since it's so open to interpretation), I'd suggest you have a look at my likes if you want an idea of the type of story I enjoy.

Star Trek: The Original Series

Love the OG slash ship. I've always been too intimidated to write for this because of the literal decades of fanwork, so I'm excited to see what you come up with!

Group: James T. Kirk/Spock (TOS)

Tags: Smut, Slice of Life, Science Fiction, Mystery/Procedural, Interpersonal Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Humor, Getting Together, Fluff, Fix-it fic, Established Relationship, Character Development, Canon-Style Plot - Freeform, AU - Genre Shift, AU - Canon Divergence, Action/Adventure

Prompts:
  • I'd prefer staying in canon universe for this fandom, since there's already loads of room and possibilities to explore. As always, though, if you have a burning desire to write an AU, I trust your judgement. A Man from UNCLE type scenario could be pretty great.
  • Contrasting Vulcan and Earth (specifically US, I guess) customs is always good fun. A misunderstanding being the catalyst to their relationship evolving from friendship, maybe -- Chekov greeting Soviets with a socialist fraternal kiss and it being lost in translation? Spock finding himself more interested than he should be in unorthodox Earth sexual/romantic practices?
  • Obviously, this is the canon with the most chances of a scenario like Fuck or Die or what have you. Having to get it on or pretend to be a couple and then falling prey to Feelings, etc.
  • I also like Spock being in random Earth situations. First Thanksgiving/Passover/Christmas/Choose Your Own Celebration with Jim's folks? Jim returns the favour and attends some Vulcan do with equally awkward results?
  • This is super lame of me but it'd be neat to see how LGBT identity and mores are viewed on Vulcan or on Earth and/or the Federation. Star Trek is utopian, but there might still be some teething problems and cultural differences, and this'd obviously influence their relationship and how the crew reacts to them being together.
  • You could go a more angsty route, but I like the ultimately positive world of Star Trek, and I'd prefer something that ends well (though feel free to put in loads of ups and downs on the way to that happy ending, ofc)

That's about it! Thanks so much, and I'm looking forward to reading your fic!!!

Disclaimer: I'm sorry to be posting the exact same letter as last year (bar one nomination) but I'm really busy with grad school this month, so pressed for time oTL

Hi! Glad we matched. Whether you’re an old hand or a newbie, I hope you’ll have fun working on this. I’ve been taking part for a few years now, and I find it a really enjoyable, positive fandom experience, as well as a decent writing exercise. I’m already super excited to see what you’ll come up with.

The prompts will contain spoilers, but I’ll keep the summaries spoiler-free.

You can find me on Tumblr and AO3 if you’d like to get to know me a little better.

General Likes & Dislikes

Likes: romantic and sexual tension (the little things – incidental or secret touches, meaningful stares… I’m a sucker for buildup), domesticity, unusual situations (i.e. stuff they might not typically encounter in canon), capers, travel fics, powerplay, fake dating that Turns Real, exhibitionism (not necessarily sexual, could be showing off their lover/relationship in public in a PG way), exploration of LGBT identity (especially in a historical context, but also in contemporary adversity or victory), pining, obsessive love

Dislikes: Omegaverse/AOB, Mpreg, genderswap, second person, poly

I don’t really have any strong DNWs, so even fairly niche topics or triggering content will most likely be fine. As you’ll see from my requested fandoms (and my fics, if you check out my AO3), I enjoy relationship dynamics that range from completely healthy to very dangerous, so go hog wild there too. Any ratings are cool.

Common plot points: British social class dynamics, unhealthy relationship dynamics, unhealthy power dynamics, D/s undertones, servitude, abuse, drugs, blackmail

The Browning Version

Andrew Crocker-Harris, Frank Hunter

The Browning Version is a 1948 play about Andrew Crocker-Harris, a Classics teacher at an English public school being forced to retire due to ill health. He is made to reckon with his professional failures, as he is widely despised and feared by the students and belittled by his colleagues, and with his personal failures, as his abusive wife Millie flaunts her relationship with the apprehensive Science teacher Frank Hunter. The play is a poignant portrayal of everyday tragedies. Playwright Terence Rattigan was gay, and this can be seen in his work in ways that flew over the heads of most of his contemporary audience. Though the requested fandom is the play, I think it’s worth mentioning that both the director (Anthony Asquith) and the lead actor (Michael Redgrave) of the 1951 adaptation were same-sex attracted and almost certainly gay. The discourse about Andrew and Millie’s incompatible needs, their ‘different kinds of love,’ smacks of veiled homoeroticism.

Common plot points: British public schools, British social class, unhealthy relationship dynamics, repression, emotional abuse, teachers and teaching, ill health, Classics (Latin and Ancient Greek), post-WWII Britain, hurt/comfort, age gap

Heinz Deli Mayo Commercial

Dad, Mum, Son, Daughter

This ad features a typical middle-class British nuclear family, with the exception of the mother being a (male) New York deli sandwich maker. He makes some sandwiches for the kids and Dad and then kisses his husband goodbye.

This advert caused a lot of unexpected controversy when it first aired in the UK, as it showed a gay kiss in daytime TV hours. It actually got pulled from circulation after the BBC received a few complaints, but the backlash to this decision was way stronger, with lots of people saying they liked the ad and LGBT charities protesting the move. When you watch it now, the whole kerfuffle seems silly, but it’s sad to think there’d probably still be negative reactions today.

This year, I’m bringing back some of my usual requests, and adding a couple of new things and a five-minute fandom. The prompts will contain spoilers, but I’ll keep the summaries spoiler-free.

Eastern Promises

Kirill, Nikolai

Eastern Promises is a 2007 film about a midwife tracing back the origins of an orphaned baby to the heart of London’s Russian mob – the Vory v Zakonye. Kirill, the bratty, alcoholic son of mob boss Semyon, is canonically in love with his bodyguard/driver Nikolai, who has some secrets of his own. The Kirill/Nikolai dynamic is very interesting and is meant to be the focus of the sequel, which has been stuck in development hell for about a decade :^) hooray.

I’m responsible for most of the gay fanart for EP, which you can find on my Tumblr amidst screencap and gif reblogs and complaining about the sequel being cancelled over and over again.

Common plot points: Russian culture, tattoos, mob culture, homophobia (internalized and externalized), unhealthy relationship dynamics, unhealthy family dynamics, domestic violence, identity, human/sex trafficking, violence, alcoholism, hurt/comfort
